Top Five Rude Behaviors Aboard Metro

By Jung Gatoona

If you’ve been taking public transportation as long as me, and as frequently, you know that there are quite a few individuals who let’s say, are not the most courteous of people. When encountering such group of people, I find myself laughing quietly at their behavior. But, humorous as their behavior might be, it is still unacceptable, for public transportation is designed and catered to be used by many, not just one individual. With that said, I bring to you the top five most frequent rude behaviors you most probably will encounter when taking public transportation in Los Angeles.

Chatter Box

Individuals who chat away often very personal and revealing details in their phone conversation aboard a bus/train. While it may be entertaining to listen, it is often very distracting if one is trying to read a book. Subjects most discussed by these individuals are relationship issues, job issues, and “OMG SHE DID WHAT?!” It is often futile to confront these individuals.

The Bus Disc Jockey

Individuals blasting away their music aboard a bus/train. Often times, the individual will blast hip-hop or pop music. I have yet to experience anyone blasting classical or jazz. Music is often blasted through a Boost Mobile phone, stereo set, or in some cases through their headsets.

Bon Appetit

Individuals (including bus drivers) who eat/drink aboard a Metro bus/train. These individuals will often consume coffee, fruit, candy, or chips. In rare cases, some may consume a steak or pizza. Once consumption is complete, they will leave their trash on their seats for others to look over in disgust. Thanks to these individuals, expect roaches crawling aboard Metro.

I Must Get On/Off!

Individuals who have forgotten that those surrounding them are live people, not obstacles. These individuals tend to enter a bus/train before letting everyone already aboard out. These individuals don't understand the concept of forming lines and moving in an orderly fashion. They are often aggressive and impatient.

Feet Relax

Individuals who place their feet on the seats of a bus/train. In some occasions, these individuals will remove their footwear and expose unimaginable stench to the riders around him/her. Besides the stench, what was once on the sole of their shoes, often being gum, feces, or dirt, is now ready for public interaction on the seats. If you plan to sit aboard a Metro bus/train, be sure to bring materials like a newspaper to place over.
